Vlog 17: That sinking feeling
This is an update video really, partly showing the hole I cut in the kitchen worktop for the combined Smev 9722 hob and sink unit and partly giving a demonstration of the bed/seat/storage system. I also show the water storage under the sink again, repeating myself from the last vlog because I’m old and forgetful – sorry!
I am enjoying the progress of the Great Van Build. Also enjoy the canal vlogs and look forward to more when you eventually get back cruising.
Can I respectfully ask if you sealed the inside cut edge of the cut-out for the sink assembly and the back edge of the plywood before fixing it all down? If the plywood is marine grade, it should be waterproof, but if not, there is a risk of water splashed from the sink getting down to the cut edge, soaking in and eventually causing the wood to expand and rot. There is probably a rubber gasket round the underside of the sink/stove but it can’t be relied on to give a perfect seal to soapy water. A good coat or three of varnish or paint (thinned down slightly so it soaks into the cut edges) is well worth doing to avoid problems in the future. As you may have realised, these comments are based on bitter experience!!
Hi. Thanks. The inside edge got covered in stain and varnish when I did the top so almost by accident it did get done :-)
