Join me in the van for a session of DIY as I fix a broken tap and – finally! – get around to sorting out hinged bed legs.

To locate the drill bit in the exact desired spot, use an awl to make a pretty deep dimple, then put the point of the drill bit in the dimple. (NOT my own idea, I just watch waaaaayyyyyy too many woodworking videos.)
When you’re lowering it back after accessing the storage, just pull it forward a couple of inches so the legs basically swing out far enough out to clear the front.
Not so horrible, either, if the screws are ever so slightly tilted toward the meat of the wood, if you know what I mean, because of not enough clearance for the drill. Just gives a bit more wood between the screw and the edge of the piece.
I was amused by the title, because I just watched Guy Martin’s little series “The Boat That Guy Built,” and when he and his friend went through Harecastle Tunnel (which I recognized right away because of watching your videos on Amazon), he mentioned how they had to have guys “leg” the boat through the tunnel. 😁
Nice work!
Greetings from Virginia, USA.
Thanks Holly. I am giving the new bed legs their first actual test tonight as I’m going away for one night to do some canal-related filming so I hope they stay up OK!!
